We are serving the community and making Disciples TODAY!
Jesus was intentional in prioritizing where to perform ministry. In Acts 1:8 Jesus tells his disciples they will be witnesses in Jerusalem (my zip code), Judea (my county), Samaria (nearby counties/states) and then all the world. Second Saturday focuses on Jerusalem and Judea (the zip codes closest around where we live and go to church – Richland, Lexington. We’ve had excursions to areas considered Samaria (Bamberg, Aiken).
“The name is the date” – the second Saturday of each month, 12 months a year. We gather and have devotion and prayer at 8:30am. The team works from 9am to 12 noon. At noon we have devotion and prayer then gather in fellowship and pray over the food for our cookout lunch. We are usually done eating and most people leave by 1pm.
The Second Saturday volunteers attend many different churches and the number of churches continues to increase. Everyone is welcome – believers and those who want to learn more about how relational discipleship helps us grow to know Jesus! If you are new to 2nd Saturday and are not part of the email list please register below.
In your community, church, and personal networks, we all know a widow, single parent, or disabled person who owns a home and needs a helping hand. You or the person you know can contact us using the Contact link above.
A small team does a home inspection inside and outside looking for maintenance and repair needs and creates a list of tasks. The goal is to make sure the homeowner is "warm, safe and dry."
The list of tasks is then used to create a materials and tools list. 2nd Saturday team provides the materials and tools for the workday event. You will receive emails with chances to volunteer for a specific event and instructions on how to sign up to be on the teams. The team is made up of several smaller teams/groups. Each small team has 2 or more volunteers with the specific and intentional discipleship goal to create and foster personal relationships between the volunteers. The teams are assigned to the tasks to be completed at the workday event.
The organizers of the event will inform the volunteers their team and task assignments as well as the required tools and materials to be provided. During the workday event, the homeowner intentionally meets and speaks with each volunteer with the goal to know their name and face. Many long-lasting relationships have been created from 2nd Saturday events.
After each workday event, in the effort to be more effective in pleasing God, we always conduct a lessons learned conversation. The goal is to identify those things we did well and the things we may have fallen short of, but always seek to improve our abilities to glorify God.
